La gran concentración que el trumpismo había prometido hoy en apoyo a su líder en las inmediaciones del tribunal donde debe comparecer horas después quedó finalmente en fiasco, no solo por la escasa cantidad de seguidores sino porque otro grupo de adversarios reventó la concentración con un cacerolazo.
Pero no hubo ni el menor conato de violencia ni nada parecido al asalto al Capitolio que protagonizaron en enero de 2021 los seguidores más exaltados del presidente que entonces acababa de perder las elecciones.
La plaza de Collect Pond Park aledaña al tribunal amaneció hoy dividida: De un lado, los seguidores del expresidente republicano y, por otro, separados por dos líneas de vallado metálico, los contrarios, que acudieron al lugar con cacerolas y silbatos.
En el lado trumpista, donde había menos de un centenar de personas, destacaban las gorras rojas con el eslogan “Make América Great Again” (hacer grande de nuevo a Estados Unidos) y las banderas de las barras y estrellas.
Mientras que en el de los críticos a Trump había varias decenas de personas, que habían desplegado en el suelo un enorme cartel donde se podía leer: “Trump miente todo el tiempo”.
Pero los dos bandos se fueron mezclando a medida que avanzaba la jornada y se acercaba el momento de que Trump se entregue y comparezca ante el tribunal por primera vez como imputado para que se le lean los cargos, que aún no se han hecho públicos.
